Our convenient Basic RiderCourses™ will get you up on two wheels in no time, ready to ride a motorcycle!
As a state-contracted provider of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® Basic RiderCourse™ in La Marque and Houston, Texas, MRH’s rider courses will teach you the fundamentals of safe and enjoyable motorcycling, including straight-line riding, turning, shifting and braking. You’ll also learn how to ride a motorcycle with street strategies to help keep you safer in traffic, advanced turning techniques, maximum braking methods and convenience maneuvers to help you in everyday situations.

The 2-day class consists of two sessions. Weekend rider classes, offered at all of our convenient TX locations, run Saturdays and Sundays 8a-5p. Weekday training classes, offered in Crossroads, are conducted Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8a-5p.
The 3-day class is specially designed for those needing their Sunday mornings free. These 'how to ride' lessons are offered only at our Crossroads, TX location and consist of the following: Friday evening 6p-9p, Saturday 7:30a-4pm and Sunday 1:30p-5:30p. On those weekends with this class added, the two-day course at Crossroads will run 8a-5p on Saturday and 7:30a-2:30p on Sunday.
Whichever class you choose, attendance at all sessions is mandatory and successful completion of both written and riding tests is required to receive your Texas DPS MSB-8 completion card. Note: Students arriving late or failing to attend any session forfeit their tuition. All who pass enjoy insurance discounts with many companies. Successful completion of a Basic RiderCourse is now mandatory for motorcycle licensing in Texas!
The Basic RiderCourse is offered at the following TX locations:
Cost is $195 for weekend rider classes and $180 for weekday versions, and is non-refundable. Tuition includes the use of a training motorcycle during range sessions, books, materials and supplemental insurance. Loaner helmets are also available. You will need to provide your own boots, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, eye protection and full-fingered gloves. Classes are held rain or shine, so appropriate covering will be needed, depending on weather. You must show a legal ID (see FAQs) when you arrive for class.
